While the Village of Tompkins recognizes that the gopher population is heavy this year, and that the gophers are destructive and an annoyance, we would like to remind people that it is unlawful to discharge firearms within Village limits. Please refrain from doing so.

Benefits of Watering Wisely
By using our water wisely:
We reduce the cost of treating our water
infrastructure, such as pipes and treatment plant, will last longer
We save money on our water bills
Please water early in the morning (before 10 a.m), or later in the evening (after 6 p.m) when the temperature is cooler and evaporation is minimized.
If you have an automatic water system, make sure that it is set for your assigned watering days.
Water deeply, not daily, and only water twice a week. Established lawns should be watered approx 1 inch per week, allowing for a little more during hot, dry weather.
Maintain your watering system, checking for leaks, blockages or broken lines. This saves money, water, and time.
Add a shut-off nozzle to your garden hose and save approximately 5-7 gallons per minute that your hose is on!
Adjust your mower to a higher setting. A taller lawn provides shade to the roots and maintain soil moisture.
Allow water to absorb into the soil, before continuing to water.
